#Moksha or #Liberation – #Teachings from #Hindu #Scriptures

Moksha or liberation is the ultimate goal, the highest endeavor. It is your right. Freedom from sorrows is your right. Freedom from bondage is your right. Freedom from attachment is your right.

Liberation or Moksha is your right, after righteousness (Dharma), material prosperity (Ardh) and pleasure (kama).

Moksha is the ultimate pursuit of this life.

We are not what we seem to be. Getting to know one’s real Self, that is true liberation.

So then what are we? We are immortal.

One who realizes that he is not this body becomes free from the shackles of birth and death.

We are unborn, We are immortal, We are limitless, We are infinite. As long as we think we are this body, we are limited.

As soon as we begin to realize our real self, we become formless, changeless, beginning less, endless and eternal.

Therefore, become the master of our mind and senses, and not their slave.

Freedom from the slavery of senses itself is liberation.

Do not ask for joy. Become the master of joy.

It is a great paradox that the one who is himself existence consciousness bliss is searching for joy outside.

From religious perspective, Gangajal destroys the sins and gives salvation and wishes people’s desires. With so many qualities, Gangajal is also believed to be amrit. Scientific facts also proves that Ganga water is sacred and miraculous.

#Ganga #water is #special because of its #self-#purification #properties…

Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, has assured all support for this research including financial assistance to further investigate the claim made through various existing research and studies that the waters of Ganga have medicinal properties, which destroy various kinds of bacteria and microbes, in order to use it for holistic human health.

Ganga is undoubtedly one of India’s holiest rivers and for eons its waters are known to possess some so called ‘magical’ properties that ensure that its waters don’t spoil even when stored for years. This is often called the self-cleansing property of the river.

Ganga is the lifeline for about 300-400 million people who reside in its basin which is over 2,500 km in length.

Many theories have been proposed on what could lead to Ganga jal being ‘special’. Medicinal plants growing on the banks of the river are thought to impart the special properties. The presence of special ‘killer microbes‘ that knockout bacteria, is another idea that finds traction. The presence of some special radioactive elements that help Ganga remain clean is also conjectured. The high decibel sound waves that emanate from the gongs and bells that ring out on the banks of the river are also thought to be involved. Despite these ideas, conclusive evidence has never been found.

Ganga water retains self-purification characteristics even in 16 year old samples, explains Chandra Shekhar Nautiyal, Director of the National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow.

He says Ganga water has been used from time immemorial for medicinal and ritualistic purposes, as it does not putrefy even after long periods of storage.

Nautiyal has studied the Ganga waters for more than a decade and finds that Ganga water is soft and has high level of sulphur content. Presence of bacteriophage against the pathogenic bacteria was observed only in Ganga water, he says.

The River Ganga

There is a universal reverence to water in almost all of the major religions of the world. Most religious beliefs involve some ceremonial use of “holy” water. The purity of such water, the belief in its known historical and unknown mythological origins, and the inaccessibility of remote sources, elevate its importance even further.

In India, the water of the river Ganga is treated with such reverence. The river Ganga occupies a unique position in the cultural ethos of India. Legend says that the river has descended from Heaven on earth as a result of the long and arduous prayers of King Bhagirathi for the salvation of his deceased ancestors. From times immemorial, the Ganga has been India’s river of faith, devotion and worship.

Millions of Hindus accept its water as sacred. Even today, people carry treasured Ganga water all over India and abroad because it is “holy” water and known for its “curative” properties. However, the river is not just a legend, it is also a life-support system for the people of India. It is important because:

  • The densely populated Ganga basin is inhabited by 37 per cent of India’s population.
  • The entire Ganga basin system effectively drains eight states of India.
  •  About 47 per cent of the total irrigated area in India is located in the Ganga basin alone.
  • It has been a major source of navigation and communication since ancient times.
  • The Indo-Gangetic plain has witnessed the blossoming of India’s great creative talent.

The Ganga river

The Ganga rises on the southern slopes of the Himalayan ranges from the Gangotri glacier at 4,000 m above mean sea level. It flows swiftly for 250 km in the mountains, descending steeply to an elevation of 288 m above mean sea level. In the Himalayan region the Bhagirathi is joined by the tributaries Alaknanda and Mandakini to form the Ganga. After entering the plains at Hardiwar, it winds its way to the Bay of Bengal, covering 2,500 km through the provinces of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal . In the plains it is joined by Ramganga, Yamuna, Sai, Gomti, Ghaghara, Sone, Gandak, Kosi and Damodar along with many other smaller rivers.

The purity of the water depends on the velocity and the dilution capacity of the river.

#Centre to #research on #medicinal #benefits of #Ganga

The Centre today assured to conduct a comprehensive research for establishing the medicinal benefits of Ganga river and its related health impact on crores of people taking dip in the holy river.

“We will hold a conference after six months where we will discuss all the research papers and make a coordinated effort in the direction of establishing the health impacts of Ganga water,” Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said while addressing a workshop here on ‘Non-Purefying Properties of Ganga Water’.

The minister assured financial support to Indian Council of Medical Research which will conduct the research along with Water Resources and Environment and Health Ministry. The findings of the research will be published in the form of a declaration, he said.

Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Uma Bharti said the initiative can provide a new direction to the much-talked about National Mission for Clean Ganga.

“There are three aspects of the Ganga river; religious, economic and its medical benefits. While much has been known about the religious and economic aspects of the river, the health impact of its water has never been researched upon. It is very important as it will give a direction to the National Mission for Clean Ganga,” she said.

Bharti said that the biggest challenge was to maintain consistency in cleaning the Ganga due to its religious characteristic. “Cleaning of Ganga is not a challenge for us. It is more important to maintain its consistency as thousands of people take dips in it in a day. So, cleaning it only once will not work,” she said.
